Joining Voices for Jesus slated Saturday in Salem
SALEM — Christians from across Columbiana County and beyond will come together Saturday at Sebo Stadium to join in worship.
More than 50 churches and community organizations are set to come together 2 to 4 p.m. for Joining Voices for Jesus — an event which Life with Christ Ministries Lead Pastor Christopher Brock said is intended “to proclaim and celebrate Jesus Christ and what He has done for us.”
The event will begin with the blowing of a shofar from the four corners of the stadium. Life with Christ Ministries Board of Directors Member Coria Brock said that a shofar is a type of horn like a trumpet commonly used in Jewish practice that can produce different calls with unique meanings, and that the ceremony would feature calls for unity and victory.
Following the call, there will be an opening song by the ALL IN Youth Worship Band, a brief welcome and explanation of the event before worship “led by multiple vocalists and musicians” and a call to unity and corporate prayer and a closing song by the Youth Worship Band. Coria said that during the corporate prayer, the leaders from all participating groups will be called to the track to lock arms and pray as one.
“We will pray together that we can all come together in Christ. We want every Christian to come together in unity and love, to come together and say, àwe are one community together in love of Christ,” Coria said.
The event is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend and worship together.
“Everyone is welcome to come, everyone. The event is open to the public,” said volunteer Cheryl Taus.
“The vision we have is a very big service to join in worship with all those that believe,” Coria said.
She said that Joining Voices for Jesus began a few years ago with a smaller concert event at the Church at the Center, which was attended by approximately 200 cars. Last year, she said she was called by God to organize the event again in its new form as a way to “break down all the walls between the different churches and come together in prayer.”
She said at that time an art contest was organized, which ran from June 1 through Dec. 31 last year where participants created art pieces that represented “what coming together for Jesus” meant to them with the winner being used on the event t-shirt and promotional materials.
Taus said that she had been similarly called, with a vision of a community worship event in the stadium, and when she learned of Joining Voices for Jesus, joined to help promote the event.
For those interested in attending who ride a motorcycle, Coria said there will be a motorcycle “crusade” from Austintown to the stadium, with a cruise meeting set for 1 p.m. at Youngstown Harley-Davidson at 5700 Patriot Blvd. in Austintown.

would be helping with traffic control and closing the section of East Pershing between Lincoln and Ohio avenues during the event. Parking for the event will be available in the memorial building lot, library lot, St. Paul School and church lots, and also the Sebo stadium lots.
The gates will open at 1 p.m. and those planning to attend are recommended to arrive by 1:45 p.m. at the latest to ensure there is time to find a place to park and walk to the stadium.
“We are so thankful for Mayor Dickey who has really helped us communicate with the police force who will help with parking and security,” Coria said.
In addition to the main event, each participating group is being encouraged to conduct “some type of community outreach in their own towns and areas” with many set to host prayer walks, community breakfasts and cookouts for their community.
“We just want to encourage them to consider how they can serve their community and show people that Jesus is love, and to love is to serve their community,” Coria said.
