COALITION HOLDS HOLIDAY PARADE: The Youngstown Seventh Ward Citizens Coalition, in collaboration with Iron and String Life Enhancement (Purple Cat), will present the Lansingville 4th of July parade at 1 p.m. Saturday. The event will take place rain or shine. The parade will start at 1 p.m. on Shady Run Road, by Byzantine Center at the Grove, and will follow Detroit Street to Zedacker Street to East Lucius Avenue; Homestead Avenue to Boston Avenue; and back to Shady Run Road. At Byzantine Center, a gathering will follow for food and fellowship. Josie Lyons will serve as parade grand marshal in recognition of her many years of service to the 7th Ward community, serving as the outgoing president of the Seventh Ward Citizens Coalition and current president of the Detroit Pemberton Neighborhood Association.

RADIO FIELD DAY: The Western Reserve Area Radio Association will present its Field Day from 10 a.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday at Mickler Park in Struthers. Ham radio operators will have stations set up for the public to see. The event will include opportunities to get on the air, witness live off-grid operating, raffle baskets and educational programs. Local safety forces will be on hand 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The 2025 ARRL Field Day is a day when ham radio operators throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio science, skill and service to communities and nations.

COMMUNITY FESTIVAL: The Belmont Pines Youth Psychiatric and Behavioral Hospital will present its annual community festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the hospital, Churchill Road, Liberty. The event will include music and karaoke, free food, bounce house, free health screenings and Trumbull County pop-up library.

VET TO BE HONORED: Girard city will honor local Vietnam veteran Kenneth David with a sign ordinance at 10 a.m. Monday in the Bruster’s Ice Cream parking lot, 1300 N. State St., across from the Girard Union Cemetery. David received the Medal of Honor earlier this year. A sign recognizing David’s valor will be erected on Pittsburgh Avenue in the city.

FIELD DAY: The Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association’s field day will start at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, state Route 46, Canfield.

Amateur radio enthusiasts nationwide will hit the airwaves during one of the largest annual events for ham radio operators in North America. Ham radio operators will set up temporary radio stations in parks, community centers, backyards and other public spaces to demonstrate their capabilities and provide a visible presence in their communities. Setup starts Friday.

CORNERSTONE MARKET: The Cornerstone Collective Market will present markets 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and July 5, July 19, Aug. 2, Aug. 23, Sept. 13 and Sept. 27 at the Glenwood Corridor parking lot, 2649 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown.

The collective is a producer-only market and is seeking applications from farmers, bakers, cooks and others who either raise, grow, cook, bake or produce the products they plan to sell.

INSPIRING MINDS 10 YEARS: Inspiring Minds of Youngstown will celebrate 10 years of impacting young people 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the future home of Inspiring Minds at 2110 South Ave., Youngstown. IM Youngstown purchased a permanent facility, solidifying its commitment to the youth of Youngstown. The event will feature building tours, student and stakeholder presentations, and future plans for the space, program and organization. A proclamation from the city will be presented at 1:15 p.m. followed by building plans and a capital campaign announcement. IM Youngstown was founded in 2015, and sice then, nearly 1,000 Youngstown scholars have participated in After School and Summer Programming focused on five areas of IMpact: Education, College and Career Readiness, Exposure to New Experiences, Health & Wellness and Personal Development.

POKER RUN FOR AUTISM: The 13th annual Mike Hull Memorial Poker Run for Autism will be Saturday at the Dash Inn on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown. Signups begin at 10 a.m. and the first bike leaves at noon following a blessing of the bikes. The last bike will return to the Dash Inn at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per bike, with proceeds going to support families with children on the autism spectrum in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The poker run is being supported by American Legion Post 737, Quaker City Eagles Post 316, VFW Post 5532 and AMVETS Post 44. Food tickets for non-riders are $10, with kids 12 and under $5. TOWNSHIP GARAGE SALES: Weathersfield Township will host the Mineral Ridge community garage sales 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Sunday. Many homes and neighborhoods in the township are participating. Paper maps with addresses of the different participating locations will be available at 3950 Niles Carver Road and 3838 Sable Creek Drive.

MEMORY GARDEN: Shepherd of the Valley Liberty is hosting a grand opening of its new Memory Garden, a specially designed outdoor space created to support seniors living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at 1501 Tibbetts-Wick Road. Limited parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

DANCE LESSONS: The local USA Dance Youngstown Warren Chapter is sponsoring an August Dance on Sunday at Avon Oaks in Girard. The evening features ballroom dance lessons, sponsored by local dance instructor Dave Czifra. The evening will start with a 5 p.m. hustle basics, a 5:30 p.m. intermediate hustle lesson, followed by general dancing, from 6:15 to 9 p.m. There will be a mix of ballroom, rhythm, Latin, swing and club dance music.

Cost is $10 for USA Dance members, $15 for non-members, $3 for students (full-time high school or college).

ST. NICHOLAS FESTIVAL: The St. Nicholas Festival will be Wednesday through Saturday at Christ Our Savior Parish, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. The festival is 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and 4 to 11 p.m,. Saturday. The festival will include amusement rides, games, pony rides, basket raffle, 50-50, food and musical performances,

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER: A community fundraiser to raise money for police dog armor will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Penguin City Brewing Company on East Federal Street in downtown Youngstown. The event is organized by Aunt Mimi’s Lemonade Stand, Annailse Kenyon, 11, and Jordan Kenyon, 8, in honor of their aunt Amy Kenyon-Bowman and her love of animals. Money will be raised for supplying body armor for police dogs. Seventeen dogs in the area need bulletproof vests, which cost between $800 and $1,000 each. The event will include food trucks, SWAT trucks and police dog demonstrations. Donations can be made through Paypal at MKenyon1982@gmail.com

The past four years, the lemonade stand has benefitted Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County in Vienna ($2,009 raised), Melina Michelle Edenfield Foundation ($600 raised) and Veterans Outreach in Liberty ($500 raised).

Organizers said $1,950 already has been raised and one vest has been donated.

RIVERFEST: Friends of the Mahoning River will host a Riverfest 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Packard Park, Mahoning Avenue, Warren. The event celebrates the revitalization and conservation of the river. The family-free event is free to the public and includes a kayak race on the Mahoning River, hands-on activities, educational demonstrations, food trucks, live music and entertainment.

PLANT POWER: The Healthy Community Partnership’s Healthy Food Action Team has launched a Plant Power! A Food Sovereignty Initiative this month. The initiative aims to help people grow their own fresh food. Throughout June, the team members will distribute free plants at farmers market and community events in Youngstown and Warren. The group will be at Quinby Park, 525 Austin Ave. SW in Warren from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; Warren Farmers Market, 347 N. Park Commons, Warren, from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday; Pocket Park, at corner of McGuffey and Berkeley, Youngstown, 2 to 5 p.m. June 22; and Glenwood corridor parking lot, 2649 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown.

CLOSING FOR WORK: Mill Creek MetroParks will make improvements to a section of its bikeway from New Road to Silica Road, including the Mahoning Avenue bridge. The segment will be closed to allow for installation of an asphalt surface. Park visitors are asked to plan accordingly and use alternate portions of the MetroParks bikeway or other park trails during the closure. The section from New Road to Silica Road will be inaccessible.

HERBOLOGY CLASS: Deep Dive Herbology will offer a two-day workshop 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 19 and June 26 at 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite C2, Boardman. The workshop will dive into the uses, properties, and ways to prepare all the useful parts of the nettle plant. FLYING HIGH GRADS: The Professional Development Center (PDC), a division of Flying HIGH Inc., will hold its spring graduation at 2 p.m. Thursday, at its main offices, 6 W. Federal St., downtown Youngstown. Forty-nine individuals earned 53 credentials in several vocational tracks including chemical dependency counseling, certified nursing assistant, carpentry and welding.

At the ceremony, Brenda Heidinger of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board will be the recipient of the Eagle Award, which recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary efforts to provide opportunities for people to make their lives better and to help community members work together.

The PDC operates Job Placement Welcome Centers in downtown Youngstown; Warren, at 237 Main Ave. SW; and in Salem, 2388 Southeast Blvd., where Valley residents can walk in and have access to immediate job opportunities. The welcome centers are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The PDC, recognized by the Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools, has also offered vocational training since 2011.

COIN CLUB MEET: The Wheatland Mercer County Coin Club will have a special monthly meeting at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Wheatland Borough Building, 71 Broadway Ave.

All are invited. There will be a 75th anniversary dinner / potluck picnic for all attendees. All members are requested to bring a side dish, dessert or nonalcoholic beverage.

There will be a coin auction, door prizes, children’s gifts and educational presentation as well as raffles.

This month’s special and main raffle is close to $2,000. The special raffle is for an 1873 Indian Princess $1 Gold Coin NCG MS63 Open 3.

PETTING ZOO: McKinley Memorial Library will present Summer Reading Kickoff: Pony Time Ranch and Petting Zoo from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial.

Attendees can register for the summer reading program and interact with animals including ducks, lambs, rabbits and a puppy. Weather permitting.

STRUTHERS 1956: Struthers High School Class of 1956 will meet for lunch at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Larocca’s on Clingan Road in Poland.

VA VET FEST: The Youngstown VA Vet Fest to be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Carl Nunziato Youngstown VA Clinic, 1815 Belmont Ave., Youngstown.

This is a chance to connect with the Department of Veterans Affairs and community partners in one location.

Whether you’re a veteran, an active-duty service member or a family member, the event offers direct access to VA representatives; enrollment and eligibility information; PACT Act updates; and general VA departmental information. Vendor tables with information and resources, children’s activities and live music also will be featured.

MOSS OPEN HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral Home and the Mineral Ridge Historical Society, located at 1476 and 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge, will conduct an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. the second Sunday of each month through November.

Plans are being made for a train show and campfire in August. The Moss Ancestral Home is on the National Register of Historic Places.

CARS ARE THE STARS: The Girard Multi-Generational Center on Trumbull Avenue will present The Cars are The Stars Benefit Classic Car Show from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, with registration 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Registration day of show is $10 per vehicle. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, door prizes and a DJ. Awards will be presented.
