AVENGE HUNGER: The seventh annual Armstrong Avenge Hunger food collection drive is set to launch today and will wrap up Oct. 5. The Breaking Bread campaign is all year long. During September, which is national Hunger Action Month, supporters are needed in achieving the end goal of leaving nobody hungry. Participants can host a food drive collection or collect monetary donations that will be collected and presented to Second Harvest Food Bank and Youngstown Community Food Center on their behalf. Armstrong will collect all donations and deliver them.

Donations for pets are also being collected, All food and monetary donations will go to Animal Charity of Ohio.

BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS: Youngstown Cityscape has announced its 2025 Beautification Awards. Nominations are being sought for any individual or company or organization within the city of Youngstown that has beautiful gardens or pristine grounds that brighten the city. STUFF THE BUS: For the 15th year, Huntington Bank is teaming up with United Way to support local students as they head back to school. This year, the partnership is doubling its impact by donating 2,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children across Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Mercer counties for the 2025-26 school year. The event will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Volunteer Resource Center, 8133 Market St., Boardman. Employees from Huntington Bank will be joined by volunteers from Great Clips to pack backpacks with essential school supplies. These backpacks will be distributed directly to local schools identified by United Way to ensure they reach students most in need.

MARINE CORPS REUNION: The Tri-State Detachment Marine Corps League will host its 45th annual Marine Corps League reunion 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 16 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. The event is open to all Marines, their families and all service members who served with or were attached to Marine Corps units.

OSU EXTENSION PLANT SWAP: OSU Extension Mahoning County invites local gardeners and plant lovers to take part in the annual Bring One, Take One Plant Exchange Saturday at the Extension Office, 490 S. Broad Street, Canfield. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and the exchange starts at 10 a.m.

Attendees can bring up to five healthy, labeled and weed-free plants to swap. Master Gardener Volunteers will be on hand to assist with plant identification, answer gardening questions and ensure plants meet quality guidelines.

Participants will receive one ticket per plant they bring (limit of 5), and during the exchange, take turns selecting new plants to take home.

WOOFSTOCK SET: The Steel Valley Woofstock music festival to benefit local animal charities is Saturday at Packard Music Hall in Warren. There are two tiers of tickets available. For $60, guests can get dinner, dessert, nonalcoholic drinks, entry into a progressive prize drawing and live music, as well as access to the basket raffle and rock & roll memorabilia silent auction. All seats at this price are floor seats. For $35, guests get premium balcony seating on a first-come, first-seated basis. For $25, guests get open balcony seating.

The bands this year are the Steel Valley All Stars featuring Rajma and Dennis Drummond with other musicians joining them on stage. Their performance will be 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Headliner Fantastic Cat will perform 9 to 10:30 p.m.

COMMUNITY CONNECT WEEKEND: The Oak Hill Collaborative’s Youngstown branch will host its inaugural Community Connect Weekend with an e-waste collection drive 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and a vendor fair 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at 507 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.

The e-waste collection drive is open to the public.

Many items are free to drop off, including laptops, PCs, DVD players, MP3 players, gaming consoles, routers, hard drives, keyboards, wires, scanners, LCD monitors, servers, cameras and other technology. Printers have a disposal fee of $10, and CRT monitors and TVs have a $20 fee, cash only.

Items that cannot be dropped off include home medical equipment and kitchen appliances.

OHC partnered with local recycler GreenBoard IT to ensure all collected materials are properly discarded.

The free vendor fair features tables for small businesses, area nonprofits, food trucks and more. Hosted by Trina Williams, owner and founder of A Fresh Wind Catering, the event will feature live music from local musician TaeShawn Madison, and kid’s crafts such as tie-dye and painting. The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation event will include not only this year’s participants, but those from the past three years as well. The two-week trip with a Holocaust survivor immersed participants in the history and culture of the Holocaust.

Teachers attending this year were Brian Bugos (Newton Falls High School), Christen Jones (West Middlesex Area School District), Ryan Kish (Campbell City School District) and Jodi West (Akiva Academy).

HEALTH CLINIC: The Midlothian Free Health Clinic Inc., inside First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown, is open the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month. The clinic is available to those ages 18-64 who are uninsured and have an annual income less than 200% of U.S. Health and Human Services poverty guidelines.

Services available include primary care medicine, diabetic clinic, women’s health, dental clinic, specialty doctors, eye care services, prostate clinic, asthma clinic, physical therapy, nursing services, dietary education, exercise training and education, social work, HIV testing, prescription assistance and laboratory services.

CARS IN THE PARK: The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club of Youngstown will present Cars in the Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in Boardman Park. This event is the club’s 46th annual car show and flea market. The event will be held rain or shine.

SOCIETY 50 YEARS: The Girard Historical Society is marking its 50th anniversary 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday with “Cheers to 50 Years: A Semicentennial Celebration” with band performances set at Black Horse Tavern in Girard. There will be a car show, food vendors, Girard Free Library representatives, raffle and dancing on Market Street between Liberty Street and Main Street. Music by Dead Flowers and 3 Three Yo. The event is free to the public.

WOMEN’S CLUB PROGRAM: The Columbiana Women’s Club, a civic organization operating a century house on Main Street in historic Columbiana, will be presenting garden will be hosted by CWC’s Green Thumb Garden Club, in conjunction with the Firestone Park Cultural and Custodial Committee and Restore Columbiana. Limited space is available. RSVPs required by calling 330-207-1470. Lunch option available for $15 per person; program only option is $10 per person.
