YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown’s five world boxing champions will be honored July 4 with the unveiling of plaques to recognize their induction onto the city’s Walk of Fame.

All five Youngstown natives were recognized at one time as boxing’s world champions.
Mancini held the WBA lightweight title from May 8, 1982, to June 1, 1984.

In addition to the unveiling of plaques, the five will also receive Walk of Fame club jackets, made by Private Stash Atelier in downtown Youngstown.
Robert “Kool” Bell and his brother, Ronald Bell, of Kool & the Gang were the first honorees to the city’s Walk of Fame on July 1, 2023. The band originated in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the 1960s, but the Bell brothers were born and spent their early childhood years in Youngstown.
The Walk of Fame is designed to honor Youngstown natives and residents who have made their marks in various fields.
After the Walk of Fame ceremony, the city’s fourth annual Food Trucks & Fireworks event starts at 6 p.m. July 4 with food vendors and live entertainment. A fireworks display begins at dusk.
