Seat belt enforcement tightens up
WARREN — Trumbull County Safe Communities, in coordination with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office, has kicked off this year’s “Click It Or Ticket” campaign.
The seat belt enforcement campaign runs through June 1 with extra enforcement between May 19 and June 1 during Memorial Day weekend and the upcoming start of summer driving season.
Safety officials explained the campaign this week at the Trumbull County Emergency Management Agency office noting they will be stepping up seat belt enforcement making sure people in vehicles are safe.
Under Ohio law, not wearing a seat belt is a secondary offense, meaning police cannot pull a driver over just because the driver is not complying.
