Robbery reported on the West Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A man reported being robbed by a male who approached his car after the driver pulled out of a gas station on Mahoning Avenue near Belle Vista Avenue at 5:35 p.m. Friday.

The man said he was stopped by a younger male who approached his passenger side door and tried to open it.

Then a second male opened the driver’s door, taking $1,000 in cash from inside his vehicle. Both males entered a black Subaru with front-end damage and a male driving while wearing a ski mask.

The victim tried to take his money back. But the male in the passenger seat flashed a pistol, according to a Youngstown police report.

The three males then fled south on Belle Vista Avenue, the victim said. All three were about 19 to 20 years old, the victim said.

Several hours later, at 8:23 p.m., an officer was stationary on Salt Springs Road near Division Street monitoring traffic and was told that an aggravated robbery had occurred earlier in the day on Mahoning, and the officer on Salt Springs Road saw the suspect’s vehicle.

The officer activated his lights and siren. The Subaru turned onto Imperial Street and abruptly turned into a driveway on Imperial, the report states. About five people exited the Subaru. The officer drew his weapon and ordered the males onto the ground. They remained there until other officers arrived to assist.

All were patted down and did not have weapons. A tow truck was brought to the scene and the vehicle was towed.

The five males were identified, but none appear to have been charged with any crimes. All were later released at the scene. No weapons were found in the car, but officers did find one black ski mask in the vehicle, the report states.

Starting at $3.23/week.
