Motorcycle antics kick up again
YOUNGSTOWN — Ongoing problems with drivers of cars and motorcycles misbehaving by doing “wheelies” and other antics on city streets kicked up again Saturday night on the West Side.
An officer on patrol at 5:04 p.m. at North Belle Vista Avenue and Mahoning Avenue saw people on ATVs and dirt bikes traveling west on Mahoning. One was on a blue ATV and performing a “wheelie,” causing a vehicle traveling the other direction on Mahoning to swerve off of the road, according to a Youngstown police report.
A wheelie is when the rider makes the front wheel of the motorcycle rise off the road surface for a distance.
The officer activated his lights and siren to make a traffic stop, but the driver, who was in a white shirt, black jeans and black half-helmet looked at the officer and continued down the street, the report states.
The suspect led police on a lengthy chase throughout the West Side and North Side until it was terminated by a police department supervisor on Salt Springs Road on the West Side near Vestal Road.
In mid-April, officers made one arrest in an industrial park on Intertech Drive between Salt Springs and Meridian roads after watching motorists “racing and doing burnouts,” which are other types of vehicle antics.
