Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN — William J. Fowler of Youngstown waived extradition last week in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court and is awaiting his return to Inglewood, Calif., where he is charged with murder in the June 18, 2015, killing of James Hollis, 75, in Hollis’ Inglewood, Calif., home.
Fowler, 42, remained in the Mahoning County jail as of Monday, according to jail records. Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Anthony D’Apolito handled Fowler’s extradition hearing Thursday.
In a news release, the Inglewood Police Department recently thanked the Youngstown Police Department and the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force for their help in the cold-case investigation and in helping to arrest Fowler in Youngstown, who is originally from Youngstown and was living in on South Bruce Avenue on the East Side of Youngstown when he was arrested Feb. 27.
Online records from the Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles shows that Fowler was charged March 3 with murder and a “deadly weapon” specification.
According to news reports shortly after Hollis died, his mutilated body was found by his son in an Inglewood apartment complex. The ABC7 website reported in June of 2015 that Hollis touched many through his gospel singing.
