Restoration sought for Billy Goat Trail in McDonald park
McDONALD — Village officials are pursuing funds through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program to restore the historic Billy Goat Hill Trail in Woodland Park.
Officials said the trail has long been a feature of the park and is frequently used for cross-country meets and recreational walking.
As part of the proposal, the village plans to:
● Restore and improve the existing trail for enhanced accessibility and safety.
● Construct new staircases leading to the trail from the hill.
● Preserve the natural beauty of Woodland Park while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Officials said the village is seeking public input on the project and welcomes comments from residents, trail users and community stakeholders. The feedback will help shape the final design and ensure that the improvements meet the needs of the community, officials said.
Comments will be taken through March by email at mcdoffice@zoominternet.net or 330-530-5472.
Comments can also be made in person at the next council meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the municipal building.
Mayor Ray Lewis discussed at a recent State of the Village forum the different projects the village has completed in recent years and also seeking various grant funding for projects and securing more than $28,000 since late last fall.
Lewis said efforts are being made to secure as much grant funds as possible to help the general fund retain its revenue.
