Man at center of South Side standoff arraigned, jailed

YOUNGSTOWN — Clyde Hudson was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and misdemeanor aggravated menacing in the Wednesday afternoon standoff on Cambridge Avenue that resulted in a SWAT-team response.

If convicted, Hudson could get prison time. The maximum sentence on the misdemeanor charge is six months in the county jail. His charges were not filed until Friday, according to online court records.

The episode began at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday with a call from a woman alleging that Hudson, 39, threatened her and fired a shot inside a home on Cambridge and ended about 2:25 p.m. with Hudson coming out of the home and surrendering..

Hudson is scheduled to return to court at 10 a.m. March 6 for a preliminary hearing on the firearm charge and a pretrial on the misdemeanor. He remained in the county jai late Friday afternoon, according to jail records.

SECOND ARREST

Another man arrested Wednesday in Youngstown, Isaac Bethel, 22, was charged Friday with two counts of felonious assault. He also was arraigned Friday afternoon and returns to court for a preliminary hearing at 9:45 a.m. March 6.

Bethel remained in the county jail late Friday afternoon. If he is convicted, he could get 10 years or more in prison.

Bethel is accused of shooting a man on Hudson Avenue about 6 p.m. A Youngstown police report states that when officers arrived, they found the victim sitting on the front porch steps, and he was taken to the hospital.

He said Bethel shot him and said Bethel lived nearby. Officers later found Bethel at Mistletoe and Glenwood avenues not far away and took him into custody.
