YWCA receives housing grants

A regional advocacy group secured a pair of state housing grants totaling more than $180,000, the Ohio Department of Development announced this week.

Established in 2018, YWCA Mahoning Valley received $70,200 for its Trumbull County operations and $112,000 to assist in Mahoning County.

Overall, the state authorized $10.6 million through its Permanent Supportive Housing Awards to help 32 nonprofit and local government agencies offer services and housing to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

YWCA Mahoning Valley (Trumbull County) will receive $70,200 for 10 households. The program aims for a 90% retention or transition rate to permanent housing.

Transitional housing awards totaling $112,000 were awarded to YWCA Mahoning Valley (Mahoning County) affecting 24 county households. The program aims for an 83% transition rate to permanent housing with an average stay of 240 days.

The agency offers housing on Youngstown’s North Side, downtown Youngstown, Warren and Mahoning County.

YWCA Mahoning Valley, which resulted from the merger of YWCA Warren and YWCA Youngstown, promotes housing, youth development, child care, advocacy and empowerment programs for women and families in the two counties.
