Two people suffer gunshot wounds early Wednesday

YOUNGSTOWN — Two people suffered gunshot wounds in an early-morning incident Wednesday at the intersection East Florida and South avenues.

Officers in a patrol car heard multiple gunshots at that location at 12:07 a.m. near South and Indianola avenues and advised police dispatch.

A few moments later, the ShotSpotter notification system alerted the police department to shots fired at South and East Florida avenues. While additional officers were on their way, they were notified that someone had been shot on East Florida Avenue, a Youngstown police report states.

When officers arrived, they found a white Dodge Charger crashed into a fence on South Avenue and slightly into a power pole, causing a power outage in the immediate area.

The car was running but empty. The owner of the car notified police that the driver of the vehicle was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in a private vehicle. Moments later a shooting victim arrived at the hospital, the report states.

Officers looked for and found a potential crime scene, finding multiple bullet shell casings near the intersection of South and East Florida avenues.

Also officers maintained the area in front of Allied Locksmiths of Youngstown, 2904 South Ave. at East Florida Avenue. Then a second gunshot victim arrived at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Both were listed in stable condition.

Crime scene personnel investigated, and the vehicle was towed. Surveillance cameras were located in the area, the report states.
