Mahoning coroner identifies victim of Youngstown’s 20th killing of year
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the man whose body was found Friday on the East Side.
A press release states that the body of Reynaldo Hernandez, 24, was found early Friday on Liberty Road near Wardle Avenue on Youngstown’s East Side.
The coroner’s office was notified at 8:10 a.m. Friday of Hernandez’s death, the release states. Hernandez was the victim of a shooting that occurred in Youngstown, the release adds.
An autopsy will be performed at the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. The death remains under investigation by the Youngstown Police Department and the coroner’s office, the release states.
It was the second homicide in two days in Youngstown. A man, 62, was found shot at 1:31 a.m. Thursday inside a vehicle parked on the street in the 400 block of Norwood Avenue on the North Side. He had been shot multiple times, and police consider his death to be a homicide.
Officers removed the man from the vehicle and performed life-saving measures, but he died, according to a Youngstown police press release. His identity has not yet been released.
The city has had 20 homicides this year, 18 if two officer-involved killings are not counted.
They were the June 13 shooting death by Youngstown police of Mathue O’Malley, 27, in the 100 block of South Maryland Avenue on the West Side of Youngstown and the Sept. 10 shooting death by Youngstown police of Shane Linderman, 50, at the Dollar General store, 1370 Belmont Ave.
