Trucks crash in Canfield; 3 go to hospital to hospital
CANFIELD — A crash involving construction vehicles snarled traffic and sent three people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened at about noon at the intersection of state Route 46 and Herbert Road in Canfield.
Sgt. Patrick Abel of the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said a cement truck owned by SRM Concrete of Warren was traveling south on state Route 46 as a dump truck owned by an unspecified Youngstown company was traveling east on Herbert.
As the dump truck came to a stop at Route 46, the cement truck, which was carrying about 26,000 pounds of concrete, began to turn right onto Herbert. Abel said the cement truck tipped over with the driver’s side of the front cab landing on the dump truck.
Abel said the driver of the cement truck, Michael Hrusovsky, 23, of Newton Falls, had to be extricated from the cab using the Jaws of Life, and was taken by emergency helicopter to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, with serious injuries.
The driver of the dump truck, David Lewis, 59, and passenger, John Lewis, 18, both of North Jackson, were taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth with possible injuries.
Abel said the crash remains under investigation and citations likely will be issued. He said it was fortunate the Lewises were riding in a dump truck and not a standard passenger vehicle. Traffic was moving again around 1:30 p.m. as emergency crews worked to clear the trucks from the road.
