WHAT: Board of Education meeting Thursday
PRESENT: Shawn Crystal, Janine Hamilton, Hans Kirr, David Malone and Kara Morgan
The board:
• Approved a three-year collective bargaining agreement negotiated with the Liberty Association of School Employees union, effective from September to Aug. 31, 2027.
• Entered into a bus services contract with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center, other participating school districts and Community Bus Services Inc. for the transportation of disabled students attending special education classrooms out-of-district for the next school year
• Approved first reading for a five-year levy renewal for the November ballot. The board declared it necessary to renew all of the existing $1,776,316 tax levy in excess of the 10-mill limitation for the purpose of providing for the emergency requirements of the school district.
• Approved the employment of Robert Housel as assistant principal at Liberty High School for grades seven to 12.
• Approved one-year limited contracts for the following licensed teaching personnel: Lucas Conkey, fourth-grade math / science; John Murphy, seventh-grade to 12th-grade health; Thomas Ericksen, high school intervention specialist; Amber Sierra, fourth-grade intervention specialist; Casey Baker, high school intervention specialist.
• Approved the following licensed individuals as mentors for the 2024-25 school year at a pay rate of $100 per day: Laureen Gardner, Kathleen Chordas and Madyson Hamner.
• Accepted the resignation of custodian Barbara McKimmy for retirement purposes.
• Accepted the resignation of intervention assistant JaShaiya McKnight.
• Granted a one-year limited contract for the 2024-25 school year to bus driver Mary Morris.

WHAT: Township trustees meeting Friday
PRESENT: Greg Cizmar, Arnold Clebone and Devon Stanley
Trustees:
• Extended a trash contract with Browning-Ferris Industries of Ohio Inc., and Republic Services of Youngstown for one year. The contract will end Sept. 30, 2025.
• Promoted firefighter Matthew Gray to the rank of lieutenant and approved the memorandum of understanding between the trustees and the International Association of Firefighters Local 2075.
• Proceeded with renewal of a 1.5-mill fire and emergency medical services levy. Homeowners will continue to pay $34 annually for each $100,000 of appraised property value, with no increase.
• Determined that 155 Euclid Blvd., 3850 Belmont Ave. and 4647 Belmont Ave. constitute a nuisance because of overgrown vegetation, garbage and other debris.
• Held an executive session to consider the employment and / or compensation of a public employee.
