Enrico Mediate 1931-2024

CAMPBELL — Enrico “Henry” Mediate, 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2024.

Enrico was born Jan. 28, 1931, in Cirella, Reggio Calabria, Italy, the son of Giuseppe and Marianna Romeo Mediate.

He came to the United States in 1949 and worked at P&LE Railroad. In 1956, Enrico returned to Italy and married the love of his life, the former Maria Teresa Polito. After they returned to the United States, he went back to work for the railroad.

He also started working for Ranelli and Borda Builders, where he learned the trade of carpentry. He built many homes, including the homes he built for his family. He was extremely proud of his home and how particular he was with it. He has been retired since 1992.

He was a member of St. Lucy Parish in Campbell and their Men’s Club, and most recently Our Lady of Mount Carmel Basilica.

Enrico was an avid golfer. He had five holes in one and always said he would get another one. He was a member of several golf leagues, including Terraverde Country Club in Ft. Myers, Florida, Knoll Run, Bedford Trails, Tanglewood, and he most recently golfed with his daughters at Partos.

In his spare time, Enrico loved to ballroom dance at Candlelight Dance Studio and various dance venues, weddings and dinner dances with his wife. He participated in many showcases as well. He also enjoyed gardening in his vegetable garden that he planted in the spring and planting garlic every fall. His fig trees were his prized possessions.

He loved enjoying music in the park and traveling. Some of his favorite trips were to the Caribbean, Canada, Australia, Italy, Hawaii and Switzerland. Enrico looked forward to spending the winters at his home in Ft. Myers, Florida, where he loved the activities at the clubhouse and absolutely loved sitting on his lanai watching all the golfers with his cup of coffee.

He was so proud of his Italian heritage. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially the holidays, family dinners or just enjoying a cup of coffee with each one of them.

Enrico will always be remembered lovingly by his wife of 67 years, Maria Teresa; four daughters, Giovanna “Joanne” (Robert) Phelps of Dublin, Antonetta “Toni” (Joseph) Malvestuto of Petersburg, Mary Jo (Richard) Kubiak of Boardman and Lucia “Lucy” (Joseph) Parillo of Boardman; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Allison) Phelps, Joseph Phelps, Christopher (Lindsay) Lozano, Joseph Malvestuto, Richard (Rita) Kubiak, and Angela and Jessica Parillo; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Abigail Phelps, and Bentley and Bria Lozano.
