CHURCH 100 YEARS: First Community Church of Leavittsburg will celebrate its 100th anniversary at a special service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

CONCERT EVENT: St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Cortland is hosting a concert to benefit and support the Rev. Carl Kish Scholarship Fund. The St. Robert Youth Group will sponsor the concert at 7 p.m. Saturday

Kish recently retired from St. Robert after serving as the pastor for the past 36 years. In 2016, Lakeview graduate and St. Robert parish member Taylor Horn established a scholarship honoring Kish with the purpose of supporting graduating seniors. The mission of the scholarship is to financially assist graduating members of the parish.

A free-will donation will be accepted, directly benefiting the scholarship fund. The event will include musical performances. For information, call 330-637-4886.

CHURCH CELEBRATION: Grace AME Church will mark its 150th anniversary celebration with a banquet at 3 p.m. April 27 at the Eastwood Event Centre, 5555 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles. The theme for the occasion is “The Shoulders We Stand On.” Tickets are $50 apiece and may be purchased by calling the church at 330-394-6270.

On Sunday, the Presiding Prelate of the Third Episcopal District of the AME Church, Bishop Errenous E. McCloud Jr., will be the guest speaker.

FIRST FRIDAY: The 18th annual First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown Speaker Series will be May 2. Guest speaker is the Rev. Bishop John Stowe, bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky.

He will present “What’s Going on with the Synod and What Can We Expect” at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m., with the presentation beginning at noon. The cost is $20 per person. Call by April 25 at 330-720-4498. Reservations are limited.

FRIENDSHIP DAY: Church Women United will host its May Friendship Day celebration April 26 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Registration is at 10:30 a.m. with service at 11 a.m. A salad lunch follows. Donation is $15 per person or if you bring a salad, $10.

SACRED MUSIC FEST: The Mahoning Valley Association of Churches invites choirs of local congregations to participate in the Sacred Choir Festival at 4 pm. Sunday at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman Ave., Youngstown. The fest is an interdenominational celebration of the sacred music of the churches from Mahoning Valley. A cookie reception will follow. Interested churches can call 330-720-1747. The event is free.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES: A wedding anniversary celebration sponsored by the Diocese of Youngstown will be at 2 p.m. May 5 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown honoring 25th, 40th and 50th-and-over anniversaries in 2024. Couples must make reservations by contacting the rectory at 330-744-5233. A renewal of marriage vows and light reception in the cathedral hall will follow the Mass.

DUET CONCERT: St. Joseph Church in Austintown will host a Duet 4-Hands piano concert at 1 p.m. April 28 with Clay Colley and Jason Volovar. A love offering will be accepted.

CHURCH HELPS: Bazetta Christian Church held a recent fundraiser with proceeds to benefit the school lunch debt for Maplewood school students.

MOTHERS DAY CELEBRATION: A Mothers Day celebration will be at 2 p.m. April 28 at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Youngstown. The event is for mothers who have had a child die, including through miscarriage. Reservations are needed by Monday to Sister Pat at 330-774-3237.

MIGHTY GOLDEN WONDERS: The Mighty Golden Wonders will host a preanniversary celebration at 5 p.m. April 27 at the Apostolic Assembly of Praise, 1515 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Guests include Brother Lamar of Soldiers of the Saviors, Greater Friendship Baptist Church male chorus, the Supreme Angels, Brian Brown and the Freeman Family.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER: The National Day of Prayer will be at 7 a.m. May 2 at the Jericho Center Room (Journey Church), 2878 Warren Meadville Road, Bazetta. Guest speaker is Charles Jarvis, president of the Trumbull County Gideons from 2018 to 2020. He is the author of two books and has ministered with his wife, Brenda, for 14 years as the Golden Street Singers. Doors open at 6:45 a.m., and the program begins at 7 a.m. Cost is $12 per person. PINE RIDGE BOYS: North Lima Mennonite Church will have the Pine Ridge Boys in concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The quartet has been singing as a group for 60 years and last year performed on the main stage at the National Quartet Convention. A free-will offering will be received.

SHAMROCKS FOR SOCKS: Catholic Charities collected 3,771 pairs of socks and more than $600 in cash donations to purchase additional socks as part of Shamrocks for Socks collection. The socks will be divided among the three Catholic Charities agencies — Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County, Catholic Charities Regional Agency (serving Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties) and Catholic Charities of Portage and Stark counties.

TaNaK is the total Jewish bible. This month’s topic is “What is the origin of Alexandria?” This Bible education series is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on the Scriptures using video resources from various scripture scholars. A free-will offering will be accepted.

GUEST SPEAKER: First Presbyterian Church, Mahoning Avenue, Warren, will host its First Sunday Speaker Series with guest speaker Amy Bordonaro, the co-founder of Oh4Freedom and the Youngstown Valley Outreach Coordinator for Rahab Ministries. She will speak at 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Bordonaro has been advocating for anti-human trafficking in the state of Ohio and the Mahoning Valley for years. She raises awareness on human trafficking and child exploitation.

MGW ANNIVERSARY: The Mighty Golden Wonders preanniversary celebration will be at 5 p.m. today at the Greater St. John COGIC, 419 Highland Ave. SW, Warren. Guests include Li’l Unity of Akron, Pastor Austin Shaw and the community male chorus of Warren, Ricardo Barnett of Pittsburgh and Supreme Angels of Cleveland.

REMEMBERING MEMBER: Bristol Community Church, corner of state Routes 45 and 88, will host a segment during worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for memorialization of longtime member, Dorothy Carrino, who died in January. Memories and a biography of Carrino will be part of the service. A noted singer, Carrino was a regular participant in most musical activities through the years and served as a soloist for many special church functions. A luncheon will follow.

FOOD COLLECTION: St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown will collect nonperishable food items to support the needs of its parish community and those at St. Edward Parish, also in Youngstown, this weekend. Donation bins will be located at the back and front entrances of the church. Anyone wanting to make a cash donation or donate a gift card to local grocery stores can place their donation in an envelope marked “food donation” and put it in the collection basket. The collection will take place the first weekend of every month.
