Priests, deacons are reassigned with new responsibilities

The Most Rev. David J. Bonnar, Bishop of Youngstown, has announced the following clergy retirements and assignments:

• The Rev. Philip Rogers, retirement from active ministry as pastor of Christ the Savior Parish, Struthers, and as dean of Mahoning South Deanery, effective July 1.

• The Rev. Martin Celuch as pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, New Middletown, in addition to his responsibilities as judicial vicar and pastor of Holy Family Parish, Poland, effective May 1. Celuch will remain pastor of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish, Lowellville until July 1.

• The Rev. Brian Cline, returning from medical leave of absence to parochial vicar of St. Charles Parish and St. Luke Parish, both in Boardman, effective April 2.

• The Rev. Jordan Kelly, from pastor St. Rose Parish, Girard, effective May 1, to a new assignment outside the diocese.

• The Rev. Thomas Kraszewski, from administrator of St. Angela Merici Parish and St. Patrick Parish, both in Youngstown, to pastor of both parishes and Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Campbell, effective May 1.

• The Rev. John Rovnak, from parochial vicar at Holy Rosary Parish, Lowellville, effective July 1, to parochial vicar at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, New Middletown effective May 1, and further studies in Canon Law at Catholic University of America (summer program) effective June 1, in addition to his responsibilities as parochial vicar at Holy Family Parish, Poland, and chaplain at Cardinal Mooney High School.

• The Rev. Michael Swierz, to pastor of St. Rose Parish, Girard, in addition to his responsibilities as pastor of St. Patrick Parish, Hubbard, and president of St. Joseph the Provider School, Youngstown, and dean of Trumbull Deanery, effective May 1.

• The Rev. Stephen Zeigler, from parochial vicar of St. Charles Borromeo Parish and St. Luke Parish, both in Boardman, to parochial vicar at St. Rose Girard and St. Patrick Hubbard effective

May 1.

• The Rev. Matthew Zwilling, from administrator of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, New Middletown, and Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Campbell, to pastor of St. Paul Parish, North Canton, and Holy Spirit Parish, Uniontown, effective May 1.

• The Rev. Gerald DeLucia, from in residence as a retired priest at Christ the Savior Parish, Struthers, to residence at Holy Family Parish, Poland, with assistance at Holy Family Parish and St. Paul the Apostle Parish, New Middletown, effective May 1.

• Deacon William Bancroft, from St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Vienna, St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Cortland, and St. William Parish, Champion, to deacon at St. Columba Cathedral, Holy Apostles Parish and St. Edward Parish, all in Youngstown, effective May 1 and diocesan director of safety services effective July 1 in addition to his responsibility as director of the permanent diaconate.

• Deacon John Bartos, as deacon at St. Rose Parish, Girard, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Patrick Parish, Hubbard, effective May 1.

• Deacon William Bone, as deacon at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Campbell, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Angela Merici Parish and St. Patrick Parish, both in Youngstown.

• Deacon Robert Friedman, as deacon at St. Rose Parish, Girard, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Patrick Parish, Hubbard, effective May 1.

• Deacon Jesse McClain, as deacon at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, Campbell, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Angela Merici Parish and St. Patrick Parish, both in Youngstown, effective May 1.

• Deacon Andrew McDonald, from deacon at Holy Rosary Parish, Lowellville, to deacon at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, New Middletown, in addition to his responsibility at Holy Family Parish, Poland, effective May 1.

• Deacon William McMahon Jr. as deacon at Holy Family Parish, Poland, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, New Middletown, effective May 1.

• Deacon Michael Medvec, as deacon at St. Rose Parish, Girard, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Patrick Parish, Hubbard, effective May 1.

• Deacon Paul Milligan, as deacon at St. Patrick Parish, Hubbard, in addition to his responsibilities at St. Rose Parish, Girard, effective May 1.

• Deacon Michael Puhalla, at his request due to relocation, relieved of duties as deacon at St. Columba Cathedral, Holy Apostles Parish and St. Edward Parish, all in Youngstown, effective May 1, with permission to pursue diaconal ministry in the Diocese of Cleveland.

The new assignments and additional responsibilities are the result of recently announced parish collaborations under the diocesan reconfiguration plan begun by former Bishop George Murry.
