Lou Lyras, a former local congressional candidate who twice ran for Congress, died Wednesday.
Lyras, of Campbell, was also the co-owner of Penguin City Brewery, which he ran alongside his daughter, Aspasia Lyras Bernacki, who confirmed the news late Wednesday night and said her father passed away due to complications from congestive heart failure.
Lyras, 73, also co-founded Corco Inc, an industrial painting contractor in Lowellville, according to the company’s website.
Lyras’s first attempt at winning a congressional race came in 2020 when he ran as a Republican for the 13th Congressional District and finished second out of the seven candidates.
Lyras ran again in 2022 as a Democrat and lost to current Youngstown
State University President Bill
Johnson.
