New SCOPE Senior Center nears completion in Hubbard

HUBBARD — City council members announced at their meeting Monday that the new SCOPE Senior Center is almost complete.

It will operate out of the Hubbard Senior Center. Mayor Ben Kyle said he is hoping for a January opening.

“They are working to hire a site manager through SCOPE,” he said.

He said the Senior Center will have various activities that range from exercise classes to card clubs.

According to a newsletter published by SCOPE, there will be other events such as bingo, lunch, line dancing, Bible studies, knitting and crocheting and grief chat sessions.

Kyle said this new center will bring excitement for seniors.

“There’s a lot of things that can happen, especially when we start talking about protecting the seniors and their welfare and making sure that they are educated about scams that are out there and finding resources for them, and food and a lot of different things that they’ll be able to gather,” he said.

He said they will be introducing the Senior Center through a meet and greet in December.

“We have not finalized any of the exact information but (I’m) hopeful to bring in some people from SCOPE myself and and try to get some seniors back there to remember where the senior center is and try to provide some information,” Kyle said.

He said this center will be “a transformative addition to the community.”

Plans for the center were announced in September, after Trumbull County commissioners approved $60,000 toward the senior center’s programs and services, which will be offered four hours per day on weekdays.
