Youngstown woman pleads guilty to assaulting officer
WARREN — A Youngstown woman faces an indefinite prison sentence of between 2 and 13 years after a shoplifting incident spiraled into her threatening and assaulting an officer, resulting in a bloody nose.
Sheriann Odem, 25, of Catalina Avenue, Youngstown, pleaded guilty before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Logan on Tuesday morning on charges of second-degree felonious assault and vandalism, a fifth-degree felony.
Odem will be sentenced following a presentence investigation conducted by probabtion officers. She’s being held in the Trumbull County jail on a $25,000 bond.
In November, Liberty police responded to reports of shoplifting at the Walmart off Belmont Avenue in Liberty.
The police report states she attempted to run from officers who chased her through the parking lot, after which she complained of having a seizure, prompting police to call for an ambulance.
Odem then continued esculating the situation as she got into a physical altercation where she punched an officer in the face, causing a bloody nose.
During the incident, a report states Odem threatened to use her “mafia connections” to place a hit on the arresting officers. Odem was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after banging her head off a wall several times during the arrest. Police said she continued being combative as she threatened staff and refused to cooperate at the hospital.
