MVHS announces Historic Preservation Award

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society on Friday announced its 2023 Historic Preservation Award winners.

Each year, MVHS recognizes those who work diligently to preserve historical landmarks of the community.

The 2023 Commercial Revitalization Award goes to Penguin City Brewing Co. for the preservation and remodeling of its Youngstown brewery.

The 2023 Community Revitalization Awards goes to:

• Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, for preservation and renovation of an apartment building at 3711 Glenwood Ave.;

• Henry H. Stambaugh Auditorium Association, for the preservation of its “monumental staircase;”

• Mill Creek MetroParks, for the restoration and adaptive reuse of Ford Nature Center;

• Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, for the renovation and restoration of the Reuben McMillian Free Library. The board of trustees and administration of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County also will receive the Board of Directors Award of Achievement.

The awards presentation is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Tyler History Center. Along with the awards, MVHS will have its annual membership meeting to elect new and returning board members, and to report on achievements over the past year.
