2 juveniles indicted in murder case
14-year-old killed in Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN — Separate cases involving the shooting deaths of two teenagers — a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl — are advancing through the Mahoning County courts.
In one of these cases, two juveniles have been indicted on aggravated murder.
Anjuan Whitfield and Anthony Wilkins Jr., both 17, were bound over from Mahoning County Juvenile Court to adult court to be tried as adults in the killing of 14-year-old Landon Lockhart.
They are both indicted on aggravated murder with a firearm specification and having weapons while not allowed.
Judge Theresa Dellick of Mahoning County Juvenile Court had bound over their cases last month.
Whitfield and Wilkins are accused of killing Lockhart, whose body was found Jan. 13, 2022, in a wooded area off North Truesdale Avenue on the East Side. Lockhart, of Parkwood Avenue on the South Side, had gone missing Nov. 21, 2021.
A third teen charged in the case, Elijah Carlisle, 17, pleaded “true” in Mahoning County Juvenile Court early this month to involuntary manslaughter in Lockhart’s death.
Carlisle will be detained in an Ohio Department of Youth Services facility until he is 21. Carlisle admitted he was in the car with Whitfield, Wilkins and Lockhart the day Lockhart was killed.
Carlisle maintained, however, that he remained in the car when the other teens got out. Carlisle testified in juvenile court as to what he knew and might be called to testify if Wilkins and Whitfield take their case to trial in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Carlisle also admitted in juvenile court to other charges — improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and carrying concealed weapons in another case, and possessing a deadly weapon while under detention. The latter charge was for possessing a homemade weapon while in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.
Carlisle’s attorney, Michael Kivlighen, told Dellick at Carlisle’s sentencing hearing that Carlisle was not part of the “beef” involving Whitfield and did not know Lockart as well as Whitfield.
SHAMARA GREEN
In a separate case, meanwhile, Shamara Green, 29, has been indicted on murder and other crimes.
She is charged in the May 18 shooting death of London Jones, 13, on the sidewalk along Carroll Street on the South Side.
The murder charge has a gun specification, and she is charged with felonious assault in the shooting of a man, 26, that apparently happened at the same time.
The shootings took place about 12:30 a.m.
Police learned of the man being shot in the foot about a half hour after they arrived at the shooting scene and found the girl critically injured.
The girl was found outside of the rear passenger door of a Jeep Laredo parked at the curb. A four-door Chevrolet Malibu was parked behind the Laredo at the curb, according to a police report. London was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital at 1:05 a.m.
Officers on Carroll Street found eight spent bullet shell casings near the Laredo.
Police also observed several hooded sweatshirts, hair pieces, braids, food containers and liquor bottles “scattered in the street in front of and around the area of 433 Carroll St.” near the girl, a police report stated.
The debris was “consistent with a physical altercation in the street,” it adds. Police said an alcohol-fueled party atmosphere characterized the scene of the shooting.
Police said the shootings happened during a “disagreement” among adults.
