Meijer opens its doors in Howland

HOWLAND — The Meijer store officially opened its doors at 6 a.m. Tuesday to rave reviews from customers.

The store, located in the Howland Commons plaza of the Eastwood Mall Complex, sells groceries, hot foods, fresh prepared foods, pet food and supplies, pharmaceuticals, clothes, toys, health care and beauty supplies, plants and gardening supplies, lawn decorations and even outdoor equipment.

This is the second Meijer in the Mahoning Valley. The other is in Boardman. A third store is planned to open in Austintown in 2024.

Vicky Patrick of Vienna, who went to Meijer to shop for lawn chairs, said she was excited because of the store’s variety.

“You can get anything here — clothes, groceries or even pet supplies,” she said.

She also said she had a great experience shopping there.

“It is well lit, the prices seem good and I like it,” she said.

Nicole Delhaes of Girard said she loves the new store.

“I was excited that it’s closer to home,” she said. “It’s clean and it’s huge.”

Elizabeth Jurenovich of Warren said her experience was great and the store has the best selection in the area.

“It’s well organized, I like the organic section and it’s nice to see a lot of people (workers) out to assist you with what you need,” she said. “We need another option other than Giant Eagle.”

Michelle Lombardi of Warren said she enjoys the new store and her favorite thing about the store is the wine selection.

“I think it’s a nice, big store and it’s clean,” she said. “The employees are helpful and friendly and they have good sale prices.”

Christopher Ondo from Hubbard came to the store because of the sale prices.

“I’m shopping for seven for $7,” he said. “It includes different grocery items.”

He also said he likes the Howland Meijer more than the Boardman store.

“It’s so much more organized than the other store,” he said.

Rosemary Rice drove 30 miles from North Bloomfield to see the new store.

“I just came in and it’s huge,” she said.

The store is open 6 a.m. until midnight daily.
