INSTALLATION SERVICE: The installation service for Pastor Edward Korneagay and Lady Joyce Korneagay will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, 220 Jefferson St., Youngstown. Edward will be installed as the new pastor. Installation speaker is the Rev. L. Dwayne Heard, pastor of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Youngstown.

PET BLESSING: Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Austintown will host a blessing of pets 2 p.m. Oct. 2. The event honors St. Francis of Assisi with his Feast Day on Oct. 4. Those attending can bring a pet and gather at the St. Francis statue by the rectory. If raining, gather under the canopy at the main doors of the church. All pets should be on a leash or in a carrier.

WOMEN’S RETREAT: Christian author and speaker, Jennifer Cadamore, will speak at the Hubbard Church of the Nazarene’s women’s fall retreat, “Faith Over Fear,” 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 8. ROSARY RALLY: The seventh annual Our Lady of Fatima public square rosary rally will be Oct. 15 with Mass at St. Columba Cathedral at 10:30 a.m. and a Euchastritic procession at 11:20 a.m. At noon will be the public recitation of the rosary at St. Columba. People can participate in the procession either on foot or by vehicle. In case of inclement weather, participants will stay inside the church.

FIRST FRIDAY CLUB: The First Friday Club of Greater Youngstown’s second monthly luncheon of the 2022-23 season will be 11:30 a.m. Oct. 6 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. Britt Cooper, DMA, and the Walsh University Chamber Singers, will present “Liturgical Music through the Ages.”

APPOINTMENT: Bishop David J. Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown has appointed the Very Rev. John-Michael Lavelle, as director of stewardship and development, effective Sept. 1, in addition to his responsibilities as vicar for missionary discipleship and pastor of St. Michael Parish in Canfield. The appointment aligns the Office of Stewardship and Development within the Department of Missionary Discipleship.

Under Lavelle’s direction, the Office of Stewardship and Development will continue to develop and direct the Annual Diocesan Appeal: One in Hope, One in Mission, as well as the Diocese of Youngstown Foundation.

Lavelle was appointed vicar for missionary discipleship in 2021, and currently serves on the Diocesan Administrative Board. He was ordained in 2000 and has served as pastor at Immaculate Conception Parish, Ravenna, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Niles, and as associate pastor at St. Mary Parish, Massillon, and St. Christine Parish, Youngstown

CHURCH MARKS 120: A celebration of the 120th anniversary for the Hungarian Presbyterian Church and Calvin Center will be held at worship on Sunday morning at the church off Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown.

MISSION TALK: Matthew and Kened (Bennett) Cross, who grew up in Southington and Warren, respectively, are doing mission work in Haiti and held a recent fundraising event. The Crosses will speak about their mission work at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Church at Warren and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 at Cortland Trinity Baptist Church.

BACK TO CHURCH: Life Church, 610 S. Leavitt Road, Leavittsburg will host a Back to Church Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The event is part of a nationwide event to welcome people back to church.

MEN’S RALLY: The Men’s Rally in the Valley, which hosts an annual event, is going through a time of reorganization. CONCERT AT CHURCH: First Baptist Church, 26 E. Church St., Niles, will host a concert 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Niah and Allisha Merrill. The Merrills will present a concert of sacred music crossing the genres of traditional, classical and modern hymns. They sing and play an assortment of instruments (including the piano, trumpets, flugelhorn, hand drums and Irish penny whistles) in a variety of inspirational musical styles. A love offering will be taken.

LABYRINTH WALK: The Ursuline Education and Wellness Center, 4280 Shields Road in Canfield, is holding its 12th year of labyrinth walks. While the labyrinth is open year-round, themed and guided labyrinth walks are offered by trained facilitators during the warm-weather season.

All persons of faith are invited to participate in these free, weather-permitting events. Walks generally take 20 minutes to an hour.

FOOD FESTIVAL: St. Columba Cathedral in downtown Youngstown is hosting its second annual drive-through international food festival Sept. 16.

Four meals will be available: Eastern European feast with pierogies, haluski (cabbage and noodles), kielbasi and salad; Italian feast with manicotti, eggplant parmesan, meatballs and salad; Mexican feast with steak or chicken fajitas, rice and beans, and a Mexican salad; and Irish feast with Irish stew, champ (potatoes) and coleslaw.

Meals are $15 each and include dessert and pop or water. Orders can be picked up between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 in the lot between the church and the YSU Williamson College of Business Administration on Wood Street. Cash and checks will be accepted. Only 50 of each type of dinner will be sold. The Warren City Health Department will provide COVID-19 vaccines as well as booster shots. Gift cards (while supplies last) will be given out after receiving a shot.
