Scrappers, air base fly together

Partners to launch awareness campaign

NILES — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers and the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna announced a community engagement partnership campaign called “Operation Fly Together” that will promote the military unit.

The marketing campaign will celebrate the C-130H aircraft based at the station as well as bring increased awareness to the airlift wing and YARS, which is Trumbull County’s largest employer, organizers said.

The partnership includes five categories — support, honor, educate, celebrate and community.

The support phase will have the Scrappers host Operation Fly Together at its Aug. 6 game, with a new patch and logo created for the baseball team. Also, a new team cap will be used featuring a “Winger” logo in honor of the YARS mascot.

The team will honor those assigned to YARS with a flag featured at Eastwood Field to honor the campaign on military appreciation nights, which are on Wednesdays. Military members can receive two free tickets to the Scrappers games and military branches are recognized and featured on those days.

To bring awareness about the C-130H and its history, educational marker signs will be displayed throughout the field’s concourse and C-130 and Winger coloring sheets will be available in the Kids Fun Zone.

To celebrate YARS, there will be meet-and-greet events for kids with Winger and members of the airlift wing.

Also, Scrappers players will visit YARS and a baseball clinic will be held for airlift wing families.
