Man awaiting trial indicted

Now faces gun, drugs charges

YOUNGSTOWN — Tyree E. Robinson, 23, of the Mahoning County jail, who is awaiting trial on attempted murder, was indicted Thursday on new charges of having weapons while not allowed, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle and fentanyl-related compound possession.

Robinson is awaiting trial in the Oct. 12, 2020, shooting of a man at a home on Fairfax Street on the East Side. The victim suffered serious injuries but survived. A co-defendant, Luis M. Johnson, 24, of Catalina Avenue was sentenced Thursday to 13 to 15 1/2 years in prison for his role in the shooting after being convicted in the case at trial last month.

Robinson’s new indictment relates to an arrest May 15 while Robinson was free on bond in the attempted murder case.

Robinson was scheduled to go to trial with Johnson on May 16, but his arrest May 15 caused Judge Anthony Donofrio to revoke his bond.

At about the same time, Robinson was also separated from Johnson’s trial. He will be scheduled for trial separately from Johnson.

Robinson’s new charges allege he was pulled over by police in Austintown for a missing headlight and had a gun and drugs in the car.
