2 Trumbull nursing homes see small jump in COVID-19 cases

Two Trumbull County nursing homes saw a small jump in COVID-19 cases this week, but practically every other measure of the virus was down at nursing homes and prisons in the Mahoning Valley this week.

The two Trumbull facilities with increases were the Laurie Ann nursing home in Newton Falls, which has two patient cases and six staff cases this week, and the O’Brien Memorial Health Care Center nursing home in Masury, which has four patient cases and two staff cases this week, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

Both facilities had low or no cases last week.

A number of Mahoning County nursing homes and assisted-living facilities had a few cases this week, much like last week, but no large numbers. The number also remains low at Columbiana County facilities.

Statewide, the number of patient cases continued to drop this week. There were 1,380 patient cases this week, down from 1,539 last week. There were 1,303 staff cases this week, down from 1,452 last week.

The number of deaths associated with area nursing homes remained the same as last week.

And the three area prisons — the private Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown, the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown and Trumbull Correctional Institution in Leavittsburg — had no staff or inmate cases this week.

In prisons statewide, the number of cases is down to 12 among staff and 18 among inmates, a decrease in staff cases and a slight increase in inmate cases.

Starting at $3.23/week.
