CANFIELD — Canfield Presbyterian Church is hosting a trash and treasure sale to raise money for the church’s $2.3 million capital campaign.

The sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 1 at the church, 140 W. Main St., with an early buyer opportunity 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 31. The early buyer admission is $5, but the sale on Aug. 1 is free.

Merchandise includes kitchen and household items, toys, books, jewelry, electronics, tools, some furniture and outdoor objects. There also are back-to-school items such as backpacks.

There will be a holiday section with ornaments, florals and other decor. No clothing or shoes will be sold. Everything has been cleaned, tested and checked for completeness.

Church member Sherry Goddard and her husband Dave have taken the lead in organizing the sale. She noted that this is a labor-intensive project involving many volunteers.

It used to be an annual event, but now occurs every few years. This allows for better quality, as parishioners have been accumulating things to donate.

Dave Goddard added that skipping a year “allows us time to forget how much work it is.”

Sherry Goddard said she and her husband are knowledgeable about antiques and collectibles and their commitment of time and energy is “just a passion of doing something for the church.”

This year, proceeds will go toward the church’s $2.3 million capital campaign. The 125-year-old sanctuary had significant structural issues that caused safety concerns and required a complete transformation.

Sherry Goddard said besides the money raised for Canfield Presbyterian Church, they see it as an outreach to the community by providing goods at affordable prices. In addition, anything that is not sold will be donated to other charitable organizations.

Starting at $3.85/week.
