Two hear gunfire in Austintown neighborhood

8 shell casings found

AUSTINTOWN — Two males sitting on the back porch of a home in the 3900 block of Dunbar Street heard gunfire and then saw muzzle flashes at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, then ran into the house to call 911.

Austintown police responded with many officers, but they were unable to find two people they believe are responsible for the gunfire, which did not injure anyone — but did cause damage.

Two other people inside the Dunbar Avenue house heard the gunfire but did not see anything, they told police.

Officers located several bullet holes in the porch area where the two males were sitting and bullet holes in the grill on the porch. They also found two bullets on the concrete of the porch.

A neighbor also reported finding one bullet hole in his home, and police observed bullet holes in the fence of that home, a police report states. Eight bullet shell casings were found in the area where the gunfire took place, police said.

Video from a nearby home showed two people approaching the home where the males were sitting from the east, heading to the east side of the house and then multiple gun muzzle flashes could be seen. At least one of the two people returned in the direction he or she came, police said.
