Sixty COVID-19 deaths reported statewide

Ohio’s death toll increased by 60 people Tuesday due to COVID-19, and four of those deaths were in the Mahoning Valley.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, 19,344 people have died statewide. Deaths are reported only on Tuesdays and Fridays, so that increase reflects the cumulative numbers over the past four days.

Three of those deaths were in Trumbull County and one was in Mahoning. Trumbull County now has 466 fatalities, while the Mahoning count stands at 586 fatalities. Mahoning only has had one death in each of the last two weeks.

Columbiana County reported no new deaths, and its tally stays at 229.

The state also reported 1,285 new cases in the last 24 hours (as of 2 p.m. Tuesday). That’s 290 more cases than Monday, but it extends the current streak to 18 days with fewer than 2,000 new cases, the second-longest streak since the pandemic began. The state now is averaging fewer than 1,600 daily cases over the last three weeks.

Mahoning County had 21,403 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 1,014 total hospitalizations and 20,192 presumed recovered, according to the ODH.

Trumbull County had 15,966 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 1,152 total hospitalizations and 15,016 presumed recovered.

Columbiana County had 8,735 total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday with 483 total hospitalizations and 8,294 presumed recovered.
