Canfield board selects Vitto for position

CANFIELD — A new assistant superintendent for the Canfield Local Schools District has been announced.

John Vitto will move into the role next school year, the district announced last week. He succeeds John Tullio, who recently retired.

In his new role, which will begin Aug. 1 and last for three years, Vitto will earn an annual salary of $110,000, according to the contract, obtained through a public record’s request.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in the development of curriculum goals, recommending new courses, credit allowance for courses and graduation requirements, manage ad hoc committees and manage curriculum and instruction.

Vitto has served as director of pupil services and as a school psychologist in the district for the last 29 years.

“I am looking forwrd to widening my lens from special and gifted education to each and every student and supporting the district toward continuous improvement,” Vitto said.

He has spent time as an adjunct instructor at the University of Mount Union. During his time with the district, Vitto has also authored, received and managed more than $1 milllion in grants for various aspects of education.

Vitto lives in Canfield with wife Myra. Their son, Julian, is a Canfield graduate.
