Austintown market to move to Wednesdays

AUSTINTOWN — The Austintown Farmers Market, held throughout the summer and fall, will be returning this year, but on a different day of the week.

After looking at the results of some winter research, the former Monday markets will be moving to Wednesday.

“Research has shown us that this very well may be a better fit for our market,” market manager Shannon Lehn said. “Lots of other changes are coming too, but they are not completely set yet.”

The first market for 2021 will be June 9, and the program will continue weekly until Sept. 1.

Lehn said she will follow any health guidelines set for this summer. In 2020, the market was held by using a drive-thru format. Whether that continues this year will depend on the guidelines from the state.

“It is impossible at this time to determine what COVID-19 precautions will be followed this year as it changes day to day,” Lehn said. “I will reassess closer to the time.”

Another new aspect this year will be a market advisory council, which will have six community members meeting once per month, virtually, during the off season and as needed when the markets begin.

“Right now, we have six members, which I think is perfect,” she said. “The purpose is to basically have people to brainstorm ideas with, possibly people who may want to help out in some ways as they are able.”

She also is looking for musicians, volunteers, vendors, sponsorships and organizations that would like to get involved. Reach her at www.austintownfarmers market.com.

This year also will see the return of the kids crafts, healthy cooking demonstrations and live music.

“It’s going to be a great year,” she said. “There is much in the pipeline.”
