The state reported 10,359 new COVID-19 cases Friday.
Of the new cases, 201 were in Mahoning County, 170 in Trumbull County and 78 in Columbiana County, according to the Ohio Department of Health dashboard.
In a one-week period between Dec. 4 and Friday, 2,205 new cases were reported in Mahoning County, 1,674 in Trumbull County and 784 in Columbiana County.

For added contrast:
l On Sept. 22, the three counties reported zero new coronavirus cases. And, during the one-week period between Sept. 15 and Sept. 22, Mahoning County reported just 36 cases, Trumbull County, 29, and Columbiana County, 19.

The state reported 128 new deaths, well above the three-week average of 70 deaths a day. Two of the reported deaths were in Trumbull County, one in Mahoning County and was in Columbiana County.
Gov. Mike DeWine issued a proclamation Friday giving the Ohio National Guard the authority to provide security in local jails, if needed.
“The proclamation was issued in response to the significant number of COVID-19 infections amongst state, county, and local corrections officers that has reduced staffing levels required to maintain safe and adequate security at some facilities,” according to DeWine’s office.
A previous order allowed the Guard to provide security in state prisons, but the Friday proclamation allows it to assist in any confinement facility in the state.
