Yang endorses Ryan for re-election

WARREN — Andrew Yang, a former Democratic presidential candidate, is endorsing U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan for re-election.

Yang, who gained prominence during his presidential bid for a plan to give $1,000 per month to every American adult, praised Ryan, D-Howland, for co-sponsoring legislation that would give money each month to help people recover from economic problems during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ryan’s bill would give $2,000 per month to Americans 16 and older who earn up to $130,000, and $4,000 per month to married couples who make up to $260,000 annually, with another $500 per child, up to three children. The legislation hasn’t gained support in the House even though Democrats make up a majority.

Ryan said he was “grateful” to Yang for the endorsement.

“Yang has energized an entire generation and infused our public discourse with innovative ideas that we must pursue to put working people and working families first in America,” Ryan said.

Ryan will face Republican Christina M. Hagan of Marlboro Township, Stark County, in the November election.
