Canfield board OKs contract

Superintendent gets pact

CANFIELD — The board of education has unanimously approved the contract for Joseph Knoll, following the announcement of a new Canfield Local School District superintendent last week.

Knoll will be paid $129,900 annually, effective Aug. 1 this year through July 31, 2023.

A maximum of 20 days with a per-diem rate at $500 per day between May 27 and July 31 also was approved unanimously by the board of education during a special meeting held virtually on Tuesday.

“I want to thank the board for this just amazing opportunity,” Knoll said, adding that he is looking forward to working on building communication and relationships with the community.

Knoll is succeeding interim Superintendent John Tullio.

“We are super excited, and I know the rest of the community is,” David Wilkeson, board president, said.

Also approved during the meeting was the contract for track resurfacing.

Vasco Asphalt of Massillon was approved by board members for the project, which was bid by the company for $172,197.

During last week’s regular meeting, board members discussed the company, deciding to do more research on its work.

Knoll stated that he has worked with Vasco previously, and it is an “outstanding” choice.

Two other companies bid on the project, including RT Vernal Paving and Excavating, bidding $219,450, and Miller-Yount Paving Inc. for $205,500.

The project will begin in June and is anticipated to be completed by the end July.
