Two found shot to death on East Side

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN — During a busy week for violence in Youngstown, two men were found shot to death at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in a rural area in the 3500 block of Nelson Avenue.

The site is just south of the border with Trumbull County on the East Side. Police were called there for a body in the road.

When police arrived, they found one of the men in the road, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The other man was off of the side of the road, also with apparent gunshot wounds.

Neither of the men had been identified as of late Thursday. Both were in their 20s or 30s, Youngstown police detectives said.

Nelson Avenue is between Jacobs Road and Coitsville-Hubbard Road in the McGuffey Heights neighborhood.

Youngstown police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s office are investigating.

Police had already investigated shootings Monday and Tuesday on the city’s South Side, followed by a stabbing Wednesday night, also on the South Side.

The man shot Tuesday night on West Ravenwood Avenue was in critial condition after being found with an apparent gunshot wound of the neck. On Monday, a man was shot in the leg on Hillman Street near St. Louis Avenue.

If the shootings are officially ruled homicides, they will be the 10th and 11th of the year. The city had 20 total homicides in 2019.
