Austintown man gets 10 years in prison for traffic death

AUSTINTOWN — An Austintown man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his part in a crash that killed one person in Akron last December.

Summit County Common Pleas Court records state Timothy Goforth, 20, 622 Notre Dame Ave., Austintown, was found guilty of aggravated vehicular homicide, failure to comply, failure to stop after an accident and receiving stolen property.

Judge Tammy O’Brien pronounced the sentence in Summit County Common Pleas Court last week after Goforth had pleaded guilty May 16, court recorts state.

Police reports state Goforth was accused of driving a car reported stolen out of Austintown when Akron police tried to pull him over for running a red light on Dec. 10, 2018.

Reports state Goforth continued driving recklessly, running several stop signs, including one at Slosson Street and Packard Drive in Akron, where he crashed into another car.

The driver of the other car, Stacey McGinnis, 53, of Akron, was thrown from the vehicle and later died, police reports state.

Goforth kept driving after the crash, and was later arrested at the intersection of Mercer Avenue and Lawton Street, police reports state.
