Seeing Eye: Architect to address Boardman history group

HISTORICAL SOCIETY SPEAKER: The Boardman Historical Society will start its fall schedule of speakers 10 a.m. Saturday at the Boardman Library. The speaker will be Bob Mastriana of 4M Architects, a firm that specializes in architectural design and historic preservation. He will speak on “The Architecture of the Western Reserve.” Mastriana is a graduate of Boardman High School and the Kent State University School of Architecture. He also studied in Florence, Italy. Some of the many projects he has worked on include the Mahoning County Courthouse, the Mercer County Courthouse, the Poland Library and the Poland Clock Tower.

The Boardman Historical Society meets 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month from September through May at the Boardman Library.

             

AUXILIARY MEETS: The Auxiliary of St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital / St.Elizabeth Boardman Hospital will meet at noon today in the private dining room of St.Elizabeth on Belmont Avenue. Guest speaker will be Dennis O’Hara, director of the Mahoning County Emergency Management Agency.

            

SOCIETY MEETING: Hubbard Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at Countryside at the Elmwood, 871 Elmwood Drive. Speaker is Avis Mathews, who will share information on the renovations being done to the historic cemetery located next to the Cornerhouse Christian Church, Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard. The cemetery has markers from the early 1800s.

TOWN HALL: A town hall meeting with State Reps. Gil Blair, D-Weathersfield, and Michael J. O’Brien, D-Warren, will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Memorial Library, 40 N. Main St. The event is free. SHOOTER TRAINING: ALICE is Active Shooter Civilian Response Training for all organizations and has created a training program to maximize survival of visitors and staff. ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) provides preparation and a plan for individuals and organization on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggresive intruder.

The Hubbard Police Department will offer the training 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in connection with Cornerhouse Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard. For information call 330-534-4665. The training is open to the public.
