Attempt to assault police officer reported in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN — A man was arrested on charges of assaulting a police officer, operating a vehicle under the influence and aggravated menacing after he attempted to attack a police officer while intoxicated, according to a police report.
Charles E. Field Jr., 68, 282 Roanoke Ave., Youngstown, backed out of a driveway into an oncoming vehicle on County Line Road near Raspberry Lane, after apparently passing his house on his way home around 6 p.m. Wednesday. After failing a sobriety test, Field was taken to the police station, where he told an officer, “I’m going to take you … to the dark side,” and attempted to punch the officer in the face.
A stun weapon was used on Field, and he said he would comply, but he later charged at the officer a second time, the report states.
He is being held in the Mahoning County jail, according to jail records.
