Hit-skip crash victim identified, suspect vehicle located

WARREN TOWNSHIP — The victim of a fatal hit-skip crash Thursday morning has been identified as Jeffery Hillard, 21, of Warren.

Hillard was riding a bicycle on Main Avenue Extension (Austintown Warren Road) near Burnett Street when he was struck by what the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren post identified as a white four-door sedan or SUV. The impact forced the bicyclist, now identified as Hillard, off the east side of the road.

The patrol said someone called 911 around 11 a.m. to report a man and his bike were lying in the road, but crash investigators believe the crash happened several hours earlier. The vehicle left the scene and investigators from the patrol, Warren Township Police Department and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office had asked residents near the crash scene to review their doorbell cameras for any video that could help with the investigation.

On Friday night, in addition to identifying Hillard, the patrol stated in a news release that the driver and suspect vehicle has been located and identified.

Hillard was not wearing a helmet or protective gear at the time of the incident and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The patrol said the investigation is still ongoing and the name of the suspect is not being released at this time.
