Insight suspends operations

Insight Health System announced at 10:11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, that it has suspended operations at Insight Trumbull. The organization released the following statement.

“The tumultuous Steward bankruptcy significantly affected health care in Trumbull County, and in those difficult circumstances, Insight has done its best with a nonprofit approach to resurrect the hospital. We have had tremendous support from exceptional public and governmental leaders and many dedicated employees, nurses and doctors who are championing a return to functionality of the hospital. However, we have been faced with many regulatory hurdles and barriers from the Ohio Department of Health. In fact, the department’s roadblocks affected the CMS certification, and then after affirming compliance with the state hospital license on October 14th prior to reopening, took additional adverse actions against the hospital.

“We strongly disagree with the Ohio Department of Health’s assessment, insinuations and actions to publicly revoke the hospital license as the clinical and facility care has been outstanding. However, from the beginning it has been Insight’s position that we respect the Ohio Department of Health’s authority in regulating health affairs. Because of the department’s inaccurate accusations and setting back the reopening process, the hospital is not able to function in a sustainable manner. Therefore, hospital operations are suspended and new patients will no longer be admitted until Insight is provided with a clear determination from the Ohio Department of Health as to whether or not there is full permission and support in operating the hospital. Insight has submitted a response to the department and once all issues are resolved, we will be in a position to chart the best plan forward.”
