Woman’s body discovered in Mahoning Avenue parking lot

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police found the body of a woman in a running car in a store parking lot on Mahoning Avenue after being dispatched there Wednesday at 5:24 p.m. for a “person down.”

Upon their arrival, officers were told a woman in a black Chevy Malibu was passed out behind the wheel, according to a Youngstown police report.

An officer checked the woman’s vital signs and found that she was “cold to the touch.” An ambulance was called, and it was determined that she was deceased. Youngstown police detectives, crime-lab personnel and the county coroner’s office were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.

The report did not indicate whether the death was being investigated as a possible homicide, and an attempt to learn more from the detective division was not successful Thursday morning.

A coroner’s investigator said Thursday she could not comment on what type of investigation is being carried out, only that an autopsy is being done and more information is likely to be released on Friday.
