Two young males shot in a car on West Side, juvenile dies

YOUNGSTOWN — A male, 17, was killed and a second male, 18, was shot but survived an attack at 9:47 p.m. Wednesday in a car outside of a home on Millet Avenue on the West Side.

The survivor is in stable condition, according to a Youngstown police press release. No arrests have been made. The name of the juvenile victim has not yet been released.

Millet Avenue runs north off of Mahoning Avenue directly across from Calvary Cemetery and near Borts Field. The shooting took place close to Oakwood Avenue.

Police were called to the address for a shooting and found the 17-year-old deceased inside of a black car that was parked on the street, according to the release.

Officers also found the survivor nearby. He had been shot inside of the vehicle but fled “as soon as the shooting concluded.”

The Youngstown Police Department Detective Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to carry out an investigation.

Officers located multiple bullet shell casings inside and outside of the vehicle and other pieces of evidence that will be processed.

The police department asks that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE or 330-746-8YPD with tips or information. Tips may be left anonymously, and tips leading to an arrest and or prosecution are eligible for a monetary reward.

The homicide is the fifth one of the year in the city.
