Man arrested in Jan. 1 shooting after trying to hide his identity

YOUNGSTOWN — Allen G. Torres, 28, was arrested by Boardman police Tuesday and identified himself by a fake name. When law enforcement realized who he was, they found that Torres was wanted on a felonious assault warrant out of Youngstown for a Jan. 1 shooting on Hubbard Road in the city.
Boardman police and deputies at the Mahoning County jail notified Youngstown police after they determined the man was Torres by comparing fingerprints and other information at the Mahoning County jail, according to a Youngstown police report.
Torres was charged in Youngstown Municipal Court with felonious assault Jan. 5, according to court records.
It is unknown when Torres will be arraigned. If he is convicted of felonious assault, he could get about eight years in prison.
The initial Youngstown police report did not provide many details on the shooting, saying only that officers were sent to 2139 Hubbard Road for a shooting. The building there was a tavern at one time. Officers were dispatched at 12:18 a.m.
Torres was booked into the county jail Tuesday, according to jail records.
Torres lived on Market Street on the South Side in 2021 when he was indicted on two felony escape charges. In March of 2022, he was sentence to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to one of the two counts. He also was placed on two years of post-release control, sometimes known as parole.
