Fri. 9:09 a.m.: Cortland man critical after one-car crash

CHAMPION — The Warren post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate a traffic crash that resulted in serious injury that occurred Thursday night at state Routes 305 and 45.

About 10 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Champion intersection, where they found a 2013 Dodge Challeger overturned off the right side of the roadway. An report revealed the Dodge was heading east state Route 305 before it went off the roadway and hit a ditch before overturning.

The driver, identified as Daniel H. Currence Jr., 50, of Cortland, was taken first to Trumbull Regional Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries. Currence later was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, where he remains in critical condition this morning.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, the patrol report states.

Champion Township Fire Department and Champion Township Police Department assisted troopers at the crash scene.
