Liberty man gets prison time in bar fight

WARREN – A Liberty man pleaded guilty today to a second-degree felonious assault charge connected to a May 6, 2022, bar fight in Warren.

Joshua L. Wauer, 37, of Sampson Drive, Liberty Township, was sentenced by Common Pleas Judge Ronald J. Rice to serve two to three years in state prison.

Prosecutors agreed to ask for the minimum sentence for that level of felony in exchange for Wauer’s guilty plea. He could of faced the maximum of eight to 12 years.

Wauer also agreed to pay restitution of $2,000 to the victim, a 22-year-old Howland man.

A police report showed that Warren officers responded to the Central Social Bar at 1171 W. Market St., at 12:45 a.m. May 6 to investigate a large fight. One man from Howland was knocked unconscious and sustained a broken jaw, prosecutors stated.

Police identified one of the perpetrators as Wauer, who was arrested and charged on July 22, 2022. Jail records show Wauer has been held in the county jail without bond since Oct. 12, 2022.
