Fri. 10:45 a.m.: Austintown Schools names new superintendent

AUSTINTOWN – The Austintown Board of Education this morning selected Timothy S. Kelty to serve as the next Superintendent of the school district.

Kelty, who has been with the Austintown Local School District since 2006, will take over in the role July 1, replacing Superintendent David Cappuzzello, who is retiring.

A Fitch graduate, Kelty earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in School Administration, both from Youngstown State University. He has served the Austintown Local Schools as principal at Woodside Elementary School, assistant and head principal at Austintown Elementary and assistant and current head principal at Austintown Fitch High School. During his time in the district, he also coached football and baseball, along with being the co-founder of the AFHS Athletic Hall of Fame.

Kelty is a decorated Veteran of Desert Storm, having served in the US Army.

“It is my sincere honor and privilege to be named the Superintendent of Austintown Schools. I am excited to continue the great work being done here and continue to move the district forward,” Kelty said.

He was selected from among three finalists in the search who were interviewed by the board earlier this week.
