Moritz, Grohl nominated for Grammys
Two Mahoning Valley natives received Grammy nominations on Wednesday.
Youngstown native Michael J. Moritz Jr. is a producer on “Stephen Schwartz’s Snapshots,” which is nominated in the category of best musical theater album. Foo Fighters, led by Warren native Dave Grohl, picked up three nominations.
“Snapshots” is a new musical built around songs by Schwartz, whose musicals include “Wicked,” “Godspell,” “Pippin,” “The Baker’s Wife” and “Enchanted.” A streaming production of the musical was presented during the COVID-19 pandemic, and a cast album produced by Moritz, Daniel C. Levine, Bryan Perri and Schwartz was released in November.
Moritz, 2000 Cardinal Mooney High School graduate, already has a Tony Award as a producer on “Hadestown,” which won best new musical in 2019.
Foo Fighters was nominated for best rock album for its 2021 release “Medicine at Midnight,” and two of its songs also were nominated. “Making a Fireã” is up for best rock performance, and “Waiting on a War” is a contender for best rock song.
Foo Fighters have won 12 Grammy Awards. Grohl, who was born in Warren as moved to Virginia at a young age, has 16 Grammy wins and 39 nominations in his career.
The 64th Grammy Awards will be presented on Jan. 31, 2022.
