YOUNGSTOWN — Kyle Rice, who was found guilty at trial of aggravated murder and murder last month, will spend 28 years to life in prison.

Judge Anthony Donofrio of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court handed down the sentence today.

Rice, 32, shot to death Danekua Bankston, 28, the mother of three of his children, Feb. 8, 2019, at her home on Oregon Avenue on Youngstown’s West Side.

Bankston and Rice had three children together, ages 6, 6, and 2. The children were in bed at the time of the shooting, the youngest asleep in his mother’s bed in the room where the shooting occurred. Bankston and Rice had never lived together, Bankston’s sister, Dajanae Bankston, testified.
